Photo ID: GC_MCVista4683.jpg South Rim of the Grand Canyon from Monument Creek Vista (6,800 ft high). The horseshoe-shaped rock just below the horizon is in front of the Tower of Set (6,026 ft high), its peak just above it to the left. The tan peak to the left is the Temple of Osiris (6,637 ft high). In the foreground is The Alligator, the tan and red rock formation that was named because its jagged shape looks like the back of an alligator. It contains the top two geologic layers of the Grand Canyon: TOP TAN LAYER including white Kaibab Formation (270 million years ago), gray Toroweap formation (273 m.y.a.) and yellow Coconino Sandstone (275 m.y.a.); and, SECOND RED LAYER including rust Hermit Shale Formation (280 m.y.a.), pinkish red of the Supai Group (315-285 m.y.a.) and red Redwall Limestone (340 m.y.a.). The tan peak on the far right, partially obscured by The Alligator, is Buddha Temple (7,204 ft high). To its left is the tan peak of Isis Temple (7,014 ft high). In the center, the flat peak is called Shiva Temple (7,570 ft high).
